The Misunderstood Benefit of Radically Changing Your Schedule
In the summer, my schedule radically changes.
I have 2 daughters and now they’re home from school.
Some days they’re at home.
Other days they’re at at an enrichment program.
One of them is going to a month-long dance camp across town.
I’m taking her there and it’s far enough away to where I have to change where I work and how I work.
My schedule is completely different.
I’m now commuting more than I have in a long time.
My schedule is now like a volcano — it was quiet and peaceful for awhile and it’s now it’s unhinged, actively spewing lava everywhere.
But there’s a benefit to all this, something I had forgotten.
The schedule change has forced me to focus.
It has made me think about what are the non-negotiables, and the things I’m willing to go without for a while.
It’s also made me think about how many projects I’m balancing.
I generally believe in the Small Bets philosophy — working through a lot of offerings and rotating through.
But it’s hard to keep all of them balanced.
