My best productivity tool for marketing?

Pen & paper.

And most of the time I don’t even use it for “conventional” writing.

Here’s why I use it:

  • Accessibility. I keep it next to my laptop.
  • Convenience. Content ideas often hit me while I’m editing something else. It’s easier for me to write it down on paper than switch to another app on my computer.
  • History. I flip back through pages and review ideas. I then copy those ideas into their proper digital location.
  • Connections. I make connections between notes & ideas over several pages, and then rewrite them in a new location if necessary. Writing (and even re-writing) is part of the productivity process.
  • Review. I don’t keep notepads forever. That’s fine. When one fills up, I’ll go back through and review the notes. I’ll capture anything that is still important and be okay letting anything go that isn’t.
  • Frequency. When doing the above step, I usually notice that I’ve written several variations of an idea. Awesome.
  • If I haven’t acted on it, it’s another signal that it’s important. I don’t view that as a failure, but as a key action item.
